1860s Livre D'Heures Selon le Rit Romain: Gauffered Edges, Fleur-de-Lis Cover

Livre D'Heures Selon le Rit Romain, printed by Alfred Mame, Tours, France. Publication c. 1861–1862 (Text carries the 1861 ecclesiastical approbation; features a movable feast liturgical calendar spanning 1862–1873).

Brown leather with gold fleur-de-lis pattern embossed on covers and spine, 4 raised bands on spine, gold gilt page edges, all edges gauffered with floral pattern, chocolate moiré silk endpapers, decorative gold dentelle detail along cover board edges, and at interior bordering endpapers.

Frontspiece and internal black and white engravings by L.J. Hallez, a prominent 19th-century French liturgical artist who regularly collaborated with Mame. Chromolithographs, black and white engravings, and illustrated borders around text.

Blind-stamp (an indented colorless stamp) indicates this book was sold at the Soubeyran Bookshop and Stationery Store in the historic town of Aubenas, located in Southern France. Instead of traveling all the way to Tours or Paris to buy premium books, local retailers acted as high-end agents and ordered sheets or pre-bound stock directly from the Alfred Mame factory to sell to local aristocracy. The subtle mark on a blank leaf was a business card of sorts.

Condition: Some wear to corners and front spine hinge, some leaves are slightly misaligned/protruding. Very good to good condition.
