Eucologe ou Paroissien Romain-Éduen printed by Michel Dejussieu, the official publisher of the Diocese of Autun, in Autun, France. Publication c. 1860–1862 (Text carries the 1860 ecclesiastical approbation; features a movable feast liturgical calendar spanning 1862–1875).

This enchanting parishioner's prayer book contains the divine office for all Sunday feasts, chants for the benedictions, and the stations of the cross. 

It's bound in brown leather with 12 crosses in total across the covers and spine, features a gold-tone metal frame on the front and back covers, an intricate gold-tone metal clasp, and all page edges are a dark red with a gold-gilt gauffered floral motif. Pressed flower on page 821. 936 pages.

Historic Context: The approbation and title page feature a decorative central crest that was the personal coat of arms of Monseigneur Frédéric-Gabriel-Marie-François de Marguerye, who served as the Bishop of Atun from 1851 to 1872.  

He was an intellectual nobleman and theologian. His heraldic crest includes a shield displaying the personal coat of arms of the De Marguerye family (historically hailing from Normandy), his official episcopal motto "Honneur passe richesse" (honor surpasses wealth), and a traditional wide-brimmed bishop's hat (galero) with 10 tassels hanging down both sides. 

Historically, the Bishops of Autun held the immense medieval title of Count of Autun. Because of this unique historical prestige, the diocese traditionally retained grander heraldic privileges than a typical bishopric. When Dejussieu engraved this stamp, they purposefully used the 10-tassel layout to reflect his elevated personal standing and the historical weight of the Éduen seat. 

Condition: Red page edges are darkened and faded in some spots, metal frame is warped near spine on front cover but intact, some marks on cover and spine, some wear to bottom of spine, discolored endpapers, foxing throughout, pages 930-934 ripped, page 935 misnumbered and reads 359, some discoloration on pages, binding is solid. Fair condition.
