1880s Baum de Lebens | German Mother of Pearl Details

Baum de Lebens printed by Verlag Hunke & Schroeder, Iserlohn, Germany. Publication c. 1887–1888 (Text carries the 1887 ecclesiastical approbation; features a 15-year movable feast liturgical calendar spanning 1888–1903).

Pocket-sized Catholic prayer book. Authored by Father G. Schröder. Frontspiece is a color chromolithograph depicting the crucifixion with a 'Tree of Life' motif. The devotional text is printed in traditional Gothic script (Fraktur) and includes decorative page borders. 

Black leather with gold-tone metal details on the cover, including flowers, leaves, a heart, a cross, and an anchor. This is a Christian symbol representing the three Theological Virtues: Faith (Cross), Hope (Anchor), and Charity/Love (Heart).

Additional details include mother-of-pearl inlays on front cover, intricate silver-tone metal clasp, all pages gold gilt, gold and green metallic endpapers with leaves, acorns, and berries. 504 pages.

Condition: Missing one silver stud on front cover (bottom left), some light wear to corners, spine, and back cover. Very good condition.
