The Animal Story Book, edited by Andrew Lang. Published by Longmans, Greene, and Co., London, New York, and Bombay. Published 1896. First Edition, First Printing. English Language. 

A cloth binding in a vibrant blue with a golden illustration of a lion and a starry sky on the front cover board, a bear on the spine, and all page edges in gold-gilt. 

The woodcut illustration on the title page features two orangutans, titled "Tomi consumes the soup." This and the cover art were engraved from original pen-and-ink drawings by Henry Justice Ford, who illustrated almost all of Lang’s colored fairy books and was famous for his influence on early fantasy art.

There is an inscription on the front endpaper that reads: "To Muriel from Mrs. Girling," and a second inscription on the flyleaf that reads "Muriel Brown Xmas 1919."

130 mm W x 187 mm H. 400 pages. 

Condition: Wear to hinges, but both are still intact; some rubbing to corners and edges of spine; some fading to spine. Good condition.
