The Book of Common Prayers. Published by William Collins, London, England. Published 1863. English Language.
Full leather in a Gothic Revival-style binding with ornate gilt-stamped paneling, a central monogram of interlocking IHS letters (the IHS Christogram), a frame containing gilded leaves, intricate flourishes, and vines on the spine, a gold-tone metal frame protecting the cover boards, and a metal clasp closure.
In terms of provenance, personal details indicate a custom binding. The metal clasp closure is engraved with the name 'Rosa Mayo' in swirling cursive script, and the interior endpaper features a custom-printed presentation label in a stylized Gothic/Old English calligraphic typeface that reads: "Miss R. Mayo from her Affectionate Sister April 26th 1865."
73 mm W x 103 mm H.
Condition: Light rubbing on the bottom hinge edges; faint marks on the cover; the metal frame is tarnished in spots; scratches on the clasp and gold-gilded pages; the lower corner of the cover is torn; and the signature is slightly longer than the other pages. Good to very good condition.
