L'Anima Amante, by The Very Rev. John Baptist Pagani. Printed by James Burns, London, England. Published 1849 (determined by publisher's address and British Library Records).

A deep midnight blue velvet binding with golden A.N. initials on the front cover accompanied by a crown. All edges are gold-gilt with a gauffered fleur-de-lis and Maltese cross repeating motif pattern; it features a gold-toned metal cross clasp closure.

The provenance of this book is an interesting one. The book was found in a home library in Wimbledon and belonged to the Napier family. It was likely commissioned as a gift from Robert Napier, 1st Baron of Magdala, to his first wife, Anne Napier.

This book is in English and was translated from Italian. It is one of the few English prayer books from the time period that I've come across with these particular bookbinding decorations.

308 pages.

105 mm W x 155 mm H

Condition: Wear to exterior hinges; metal cover brackets are patinaed; cross clasp slightly bent but functional; patina to crown and initials on front cover. Some light marks to velvet.  Good to fair condition.
